The action month for food safety 2017 is themed ‘Safe production, trade and consumption of fresh and raw food; Controlling alcohol and preventing alcohol poisoning.’
The objective of the action month is to raise awareness of local governments, management officials, producers, traders and consumers of the importance of ensuring the safety of food, especially fresh food such as vegetables, meat and seafood, as well as alcohol.
At the same time, it also aims to encourage people to denounce violations of food safety regulations, contributing to reducing food and alcohol poisoning.
The action month will focus on preventing the use of chemical substances and industrial alcohol in producing liquor, preventing the use of banned substances in breeding and using plant protection substances in vegetables and fruits.
Vice Chairman of PPC Dinh Van Thu require localitiest to strengthen the control of alcohol’s origin as well as wine using industrial alcohol and asked authorized agencies to strictly handle violations in the field.
Six interdisciplinary inspection teams will be set up to examine food safety in 12 cities and provinces across the country from April 15 to May 15 following the direction of the National Interdisciplinary Steering Committee on Food Safety.
The establishment is part of activities during the action month for food safety 2017. The teams will gather representatives from the Ministries of Health, Agriculture and Rural Development, and Industry and Trade, as well as relevant ministries and agencies.
There are 11 other provinces to be inspected : Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Ha Noi, Hung Yen, Da Nang, DakLak, Gia Lai, Ninh Thuan, Phu Yen, HCM City and Ben Tre.
