Quang Nam now has 130,000 ethnic people, accounting for 8.93% of the province's population, living in 74 communes / 389 villages / 706 residential areas under 11 district. They are Cotu, Xe dang, Cor, and Gie-trieng.
Some types of traditional culture now are in danger of imbalance. Traditional costumes are usually used only during festive days. Gong sets are gradually damaged due to time. Gong dancers mainly are older people. Most of villages and communes do not have gongs/drums. Folk songs and folk dances are rarely used, handed down and disseminated, especially in the young. The transmission of heritage in the community has not been paid proper attention.
The delegates suggested some solutions to preserve and promote the typical culture of Quang Nam's ethnic minorities such as: support to purchase gongs/ drums for ethnic minorities; training skills of preserving intangible cultural heritages associated with developing tourism in the locality; introducing typical cultural traditions; restore, preserve and promote the values of traditional festivals of ethnic minority people; support the activities of traditional clubs; cultural heritage of ethnic minorities into teaching at ethnic boarding schools and so on.
