According to the decision, Chu Lai OEZ will be a multi-sector marine economic zone, one of the key economic zones in Central Vietnam, develops in various industries including automobile manufacture, car supportive industry, oil refinery, high-tech agriculture with Chu Lai airport and Chu Lai - Ky Ha port system
In addition, Chu Lai OEZ is the center for transportation, trade and international exchange of Vietnam Central - Highland. It also an important defense and security location.
According to the planning adjustment, the new Chu Lai OEZ will covers an area of 27,000 m2 of Tam Kỳ City (Tam Thanh, Tam Phú, Tam Thang, An Phu) , Núi Thành (Tam Quang, Tam Hiệp, Tam Hòa, Tam Anh Bắc, Tam Anh Nam, Tam Tiến, Tam Nghĩa commune and Nui Thanh town)and Thăng Bình districts (Bình Hải, Bình Sa, Bình Nam, Bình Trung, Bình Tú, Bình Triều, Bình Minh, Bình Đào).
The new zone will use 3,000 ha for industrial parks, 5,000 ha for urban zones by 2025. By 2035, the land for industrial zones will be 5,010 ha and 7,000 ha for urban zones.
The four urban zones in the OEZ are set to accommodate a population of 250,000 in 2025 and 550,000 in 2035.
The non-tariff area of 1,012 hectares will be adjusted to the layout of a zone attached to Chu Lai Airport (225ha); 1 area associated with Tam Hiep port (40ha); 1 area associated with Tam Hoa harbor area (747 ha).
The industrial parks of North Chu Lai, Tam Anh, Tam Hiep and Tam Thang; the ports of Ky Ha, Tam Hiep, Tam Hoa, Tam Tien, Tam thanh are also adjusted.
Chu Lai OEZ will has 3 type II-urban zones, including Nui Thanh, Tam ANh and East Tam Ky.
