Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc urged for strong measures to cope with African swine fever (ASF) at an online conference with the ministries, agencies and localities concerned on March 4. In Quang Nam, Vice Chairman Le Van Thanh representatives of departments and agencies attended the conference.
Reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, from Febuary 1 to March 3rd, African swine had been found in 20 communes of 13 districts in four provinces, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa and Ha Nam, and Hai Phong city. The total number of culled pigs was nearly 2,350 with estimated losses of tens of billions of dong.
The disease has not reached Quang Nam yet. However, the disease spreaded rapidlly, greatly affected to livestock development, social security and the environment.
The experts have shown 3 main reasons of spreading the disease: 46% are  by means of transport and people that do not perform sanitation and disinfection spraying; 34% are due to using leftovers; 19% is due to the transport of live pigs and pig products among regions.
At the online conference, PM asked that the political system, all sectors, enterprises and farmers must strictly and effectively implement Directive 04/CT-TTg dated February 20 by the PM on the synchronous implementation of urgent solutions to control ASF.
African swine fever does not spread to humans and poultry. He also urged the Ministry of Information and Communications to promote propaganda on the issue, helping consumers not to be confused and turn away from clean pork, as well as strengthening the inspection and strict handling of violations.
Chairpersons of People's Committees of provinces and cities must be responsible for their locales’ ASF fighting results to the law and the PM.
