Implementation of REDD project (25/10/2020)
A conference on implementation of Action Plan to Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) in Quang Nam in the period 2020 – 2030 has just been held.
Attendees included Mr. Pham Van Dien - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, Vice Chairman Ho Quang Buu, Ms. Brittany Thomas - Environmental Coordinator, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and representatives of related departments, agencies.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman Ho Quang Buu said: "Quang Nam Provincial REDD + Plan for the period 2020 - 2030 was developed and approved. In addition to attention and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, provincial People's Council, People's Committee, efforts of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, relevant departments, agencies and localities, Quang Nam was guided by the National Coordinating Office on the Targeted Program to develop REDD program. 
The Quang Nam REDD+ in the period of 2020 - 2030 is to preserve the existing natural forest area of 466,113 hectares and improve the quality of natural forests through forest conservation, protection and enrichment.
It is also aimed at raising the forest cover up to 61% by 2025. Besides, the project aims to increase the production forest area with certification for sustainable forest management by 2030 with at least 15% of planted forest areas certified by FSC (Forest Stewardship Council).
At the conference, the participants gave many opinions about the difficulties and most favorable methods for the Quang Nam Provincial REDD + Plan 2020 - 2030
